A paragraph about yourself.

An enthusiastic geophysicists with zest for life. Bingoing here and there just to keep out of mischief and keeping my blood pressure under check. Does reading the jungle book mean one lived in the jungle? Experience is not learnt but lived. So, live life and try as many things before you say I don’t like that before you tried it. When it comes to bingoing, I just love listening to the post-mortems after each round of play.

My word against yours. "Just for the spell of it". (My friend,Gary Moss in America's slogan) www.just4thespellofit.com

I love The Word

Started playing serious Scrabble at the Fish Hoek beach Restaurant with David Gad and friends in 2001 on weekends, after our daily swim. We have since been banned! As a child we sometimes used to play scrabble by the fireside on the farm where I grew up in the OFS. When I am not playing, I sell real estate.

Having a whale of a time watching them from my window. How blessed am I? I love all my Scrabble friends. A special thank you to Anita for her wonderful example to Scrabble.

Early and on the ISC

My philosophy: "The harder I study, the luckier I get!"

My loves: four and five letter words, and whacky bingos like WHARENUI and MANGEAO. Dilly vowel dumps like TAUIWI and WAIRUA. Other whacky words like CWTCH, CRWTH and crazy JQXZ words like GUANXI and WUXIA.

Achievements: Came third in the nationals (mid 1990s) in my first competition ever. Since then my rating has never been below 1800.

National Champ in 2001 and 2005, and runner up 4 or 5 times in

nationals. National Grandmaster 2001 and 2008. Represented SA at world champs 5 times from 1999 to 2007 (best position 34th in 2007). Hold the record for the highest game score in SA in the competitive era - 717 against Andrew Goldberg, and the unofficial record for the highest scoring speed game of around 674 in six minutes against Dylan early.

My picks for hottest up and coming players: Jarrod , Solomon

and Garth.
